Customer Rating: Summary: Linpus Linux operating system was dreadful Comment: As much as I loved the sleek design of the little white Acer mini-notebook I have to give it only one star because of the operating system. Make sure you fully understand the limitations of Linpus Linux Lite before you order a computer with this particular operating system. If you're used to working with Windows, and if you like to load photos online, you may be very disappointed. With Linux all you see is the file names for photos when you pull up the list of files. There's no option to view thumbnails; at least none that I found. I had a terrible time trying to load photos to facebook, not knowing which ones I was actually loading when I selected the file names. There were a variety of other (what I refer to as) limitations of this operating system. It would have been very expensive for me to purchase Windows software, so I am returning this trusty little machine today after approximately three hours of (sad) amazement. Not everyone has the same goals in mind. Maybe you would not mind the simplicity of the system's design. It's definitely not for me, however.
One other thing I noticed was the power cord was very thin, and the little "box" that connects the two cords together said "caution, this may become hot". It made me wonder, how hot?! And to top it off, the machine was made in China. I know not everything made in China is garbage. I'm aware that they do produce some very fine products (and obviously some not so fine).
I would have been happy with the Acer if I had purchased it with Windows, but I opted to purchase a ASUS netbook for my replacement. It sounds like the battery life will put the Acer Aspire One to shame.
Customer Rating: Summary: good product Comment: worked out of the box. Fast and easy to use.
Linux is hard to learn but there is a user group forum that helps a lot.
Unit is quiet and fast. Video doesn't play well with the mplayer supplied though.
Customer Rating: Summary: I Like My Acer Aspire One... Comment: This is a good little laptop for someone who needs a super portable computer. Though the on board OS (Linpus Linux Lite) is fairly straightforward, don't expect it to perform miracles. I intend to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix ASAP (larger community, more apps).
If I would have had a little more money, I probably would have bought an MSI Wind. Having said that, I do not regret buying this thing at all.
Customer Rating: Summary: nice hardware, medium software Comment: I bought the aspire one with linpus and 8 Gb solid drive.
The Computer works properly. Internet, office, email is ok.
What I do not like:
1) The Antenna of wireless is weak, often I do not get stable contact.
2) The software linpus is very uncommon. I did not succeed installing any other new linux - software except of skype.
Customer Rating: Summary: Acer mini laptop Comment: In one word ... FANTASTIC! The Acer suits my needs perfectly. Easy to carry, set up and operate - it only takes a little getting used to (like any new toy!). But once you get the hang of it - you can't stop. Everyday is a pleasant revelation. So far, I have no regrets.
