The Intel Core 2 Duo pocessors are built in several of the world's most advanced, high-volume output manufacturing facilities using Intel's leading silicon process technology. The processor family is based on the revolutionary Intel Core microarchitecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy-efficient performance. With the power of dual cores, or computing engines, the processors can manage numerous tasks faster. They also can operate more smoothly when multiple applications are running, such as writing e-mails while downloading music or videos and conducting a virus scan.a virus scan. the Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache and Intel Digital Media Boost, this new processor is designed to do more in less time. Additional features to support enhanced security, virtualization, and 64-bit computing make the Intel Core 2 Duo the most impressive new processor developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world. Design changes in the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that improve performance also increase processor energy efficiency by operating at lower frequencies that require less power to run. Intel Intelligent Power Capability optimizes energy usage of the processor cores by turning on computing functions only when needed. This more energy-efficient processor supports smaller, more capable, and quieter desktop PC to conserve critical power resources.

Customer Rating: Summary: Best Processor Out There. Comment: Great cpu for just about anything gameing, music,DVD,surfing the web, ect. This duel core 2 is better than a quad processor in all ways.. Better performance,it runs cooler, no lag, and energy saver... Setup was easy but the fan that comes with this duel core is not a good one for long.. It will make noise after awile so i would look into a different one. I recommend this cpu for everyone looking into makeing there computer faster and better. Its a great price for what it does. Don't forget to get some artic silver 5 thermal compound. I use it in every computer i have to keep it running cool. Make sure to wipe the compound off the company puts on the heatsink because its not good at all.. That about does it. Good Luck!!! Have fun with it!!
Ps. Thanks Amazon for the great sevice and packageing.. A++++++
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent CPU, OC friendly Comment: This is an excellent cpu. I have a Gigabyte EP45-UD3L motherboard and it overclocks so easily on air. I have it running at 4.18GHz with 440MHz bus speed voltage upped to 1.45V. Runs stable and fast. I had no intention of overclocking it when i got it. Just a work computer that is occasionally used for games, video etc. Temperatures were so low using Coolermaster Hyper n520 (25C/45C) that I decided to try overclocking. Now, overclocked by over 1GHz, temperatures are 37C/60C. No problems.
Customer Rating: Summary: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 saved me from drowning in a well! Comment: OK, that's an exaggeration. JR didn't fall in a well and get rescued by his new processor like Timmy being saved by Lassie - but I do have to say - this processor is AWESOME! I wanted to boost my system performance without changing computers and I didn't want to re-invest in MB, RAM, cards etc - so I did the 'hard thing' and dumped my 1.8ghz processor and jumped to this one. It was nearly painless to do. (Would have been easier had I updated my BIOS recently) I was up and running with nearly twice the speed. (But I still tried overclocking.) My ASUS MB allows me to toke it up by 20%. So I've been running at 3.8ghz - OVER TWICE AS FAST AS MY OLD CHIP! WOOOHOOO!
So, I didn't fall in a well - but this processor saved me from the pain of big software programs slowing me way down. Adobe Photoshop screams, and when I render video in Sony Vegas - WOW! What a huge difference. Not to mention what happens when I take a break and go play a little '3rd person shooter'. No lag and many more 'kills'.
Why the Dual Core over the quad? I had to really investigate this heavily before making this decision. I'm going to save you some time: quad cores are best suited for someone that has multiple applications that take advantage of having four cores. Very little use really. So 50% of the chip is under utilized for gamers and typical business users. The extra expense does not justify the gain. (Intels new 'i series' quad cores are different - because they can have 4 cores act like 2 cores if nothing is taking advantage of all 4. But I will leave it to Intel to explain how that works)
Last thought. I don't know how much longer the dual core for the LGA775 socket is going to be around - Intel has moved on to a newer version of the chip (i series) which requires a substantial upgrade in MB, ram, etc. If you want to keep your current gear but go faster - grab one of these now. I'm glad I did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Intel Inside Comment: I dislike AMD processors. Not much else to say. It's an Intel, it's Dual Core.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice rejuvenation for my PC. Comment: Upgraded from an E6420 to this E8500. Besides the speed / performance improvements I noticed mostly the much smaller cooler that comes with this almost double the speed processor. It's only about half as thick as the E6420 cooler and much lighter. No copper core either. It still keeps the CPU sufficiently cool even after a full run of Futuremark benchmarks! So the new design must create a lot less heat while greatly improving performance. Good job INTEL!
