Editorial Reviews:

The Apple Keyboard has been completely redesigned to feature an elegant, ultra-thin anodized aluminum enclosure with low-profile keys that provide a crisp, responsive feel. It also has function keys for one-touch access to a variety of Mac features such as screen brightness, volume, eject, play/pause, fast-forward and rewind, Expose and Dashboard. Its extended layout includes document navigation controls and a numeric keypad. Two USB 2.0 ports provide high-speed connectivity for your iPod, Mighty Mouse, digital camera and other USB-based electronic devices.

Summary: looks great but still short of perfection
Comment: As is true with most apple products, this keyboard looks good, is well designed, and works very well. However, as a person that uses Photoshop heavily, I can say that this keyboard isn't great if you're only pressing select buttons. The keys are very hard to distinguish from one another, which is something that I guess any good typist wouldn't have a problem with, but is something that caused me quite a bit of frustration.

The key layout and mapping is actually very nice. Having all of the Mac software functions (Dashboard, Volume Control, etc.) clearly labeled on the function keys was a great idea and makes navigating the OS a much quicker process. But when typing long documents, or doing specific keystrokes, it becomes difficult to deal with. I often find myself pressing the wrong keys and performing the wrong keystroke, wasting time and frustrating me to no end. Ridges on the edges of the keys, or having them slightly indented would have made this keyboard perfect.

The previous Mac factory keyboard, the Apple Wireless Pro Keyboard is in my opinion the better all-around keyboard, simply because the keys are much easier to navigate, though the slimness and low resistance of this keyboard makes typing much less tiring.

The USB 2.0 ports work amazingly well. They will operate everything short of an iPod or external HD. This is really the only flaw of the older keyboard, which can't handle USB 2.0 flash drives.

Also, this keyboard, though it might look sturdy, is very "smash" unfriendly. If you're a gamer (or quickly frustrated), I suggest getting something with more strongly secured keys as these will pop off (and break) rather easily with enough force.

In short, buy this keyboard if you need extra USB ports, are a proficient typist, and are used to or prefer slim keyboards (laptops). The other "mac" keyboards out there aren't as well designed as this one. Lacking the dashboard, spaces, etc software function labels, the other keyboards require you to remember which F key does what, which can be a pain considering how many software functions are built into the 10.5 OS.

Summary: Great looking keyboard
Comment: This keyboard is excellent. Not only is it comfortable to type on, but it looks quite nice. The iTunes controls are nice as well. Only reason for 4 stars is I feel (like many Apple products) that the price is a bit high for a wired keyboard, but that's a small gripe.

Summary: Works very well
Comment: Works very well, sleek design and excellent "feel" when typing.
The metal casing makes it very sturdy. The only difficulty is the position of the USB ports, needs some time to get used to it. It also does not work with USB drives that require some power.

Summary: Nice keys, but Quirky is anything but Mac OS X
Comment: --Good--
+beautiful design
+Good Short key action
--bad--
-On my linux machine it randomly disconnected several times and now it doesn't even relink up.
-USB v1.1 for non Mac users
-Function keys F1 through F12 (not including F5 and F6) are only function keys if you press the fn key right to the backspace and above the delete key. For most keystrokes this makes this keyboard a major waste of time. I bought this to replace my aging dell PS/2 keyboard.
-If you rest your wrists on the surface before the keyboard (which is the worst way to type) you will get RSI so invest in a wrist rest.

--Bottom Line--
Buy only after you have visited an Apple Store unless money isn't an object.

Summary: overall typical Apple quality
Comment: I replaced a wireless microsoft ergonomically designed keyboard with the new traditional Apple keyboard. Design is classic, keyboard response is crisp. Has a very good feel to it. Functions more naturally with my iMac. All the keys are applicable. Only issue for me, with large hands, is that I had gotten used to the more curved spread-out ergonomic keyboard and I'm having to re-train to the tighter layout.
