Summary: Nice modem, easy set up and reliable speeds
Comment: I'm very satisfied with the purchase of this cable modem and have had no problem with it so far. Easy to install/set-up, unobtrusive looking, and so far speeds are very reliable ( using Charter Broadband ). I run several true speed tests each week and the modem works well with my service, providing speeds at least as high as the cable company promises. I've always had confidence in the Motorola brand of products and have owned many different electronics items made by the company, so chose this modem over others I had not had experience with. Don't know what more you can say about a modem. It works, it's great, I'm happy.

Comment: Motorola makes solid iron and this product lives up to that reputation.
I have had Motorola cable modems (along with phones and radios) for many years now and never had a single problem. Eventually noticed I was not getting the advertised speeds from Comcast and called customer service, thinking there might be an issue with the line. I was told that my old SB4100 modem did not support the higher-speed standard and I would need to upgrade to get those higher speeds. I automatically turned to another Motorola, this time the SB5101.
Changeover was truly painless. Plug in the new one, call Comcast, give them the identifying information and I was up and running within minutes. I recall there was a small glitch when my computer was not found by Comcast. It turned out it was necessary to power off and on the Linksys router also. I immediately noticed the increase in speed which, according to the various online meters, doubled.
I have now had the modem almost one year, have had no problems with it at all and continue to cruise at advertised speeds.

In my Windows XP, the USB cable connects at 12Mbs speed.
speedtest.net shows the following download speeds:
21-26 Mbs for Ethernet cable (100Mbs connection)
5-6 Mbs for USB cable (12Mbs connection)
so beware

Summary: Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem
Comment: Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem arrived within a week of ordering, free of shipping charges. The unit was very easy to install. I called my Internet ISP Comcast, after installing the unit to give them the required modem ID information and within a few minutes the unit was up and running. The lights and lettering on the front vertical panel are clearly visible. I also appreciate the button on the top that when pressed cuts the Internet traffic to the computer. This is a nice security feature. When pressed again, the Internet session resumes. I have a VOIP phone and I thought that cutting the Internet signal with that button would disable the phone modem as well. But, that did not happen. The phone works fine even with the modem button is pressed to stop the Internet signal. The upload-download speed has improved much compared to my old Comcast modem. I am no longer paying the monthly modem rental to Comcast. With the Amazon's bargain price, my break-even is just 10 months. Overall, I like this unit.

Comment: Bought this cable modem to work with Comcast HS Internet. Had trouble switching my Linksys router from DSL modem to this cable modem. After updating router firmware, and following directions from Linksys website, finally got it to work. All is well now.
