Customer Rating: Summary: Works for me! Comment: I bought this little jewel a few weeks ago and it works great out of the box. Easy and fast to install, and easy to use. Included instructions are clear, and cover all versions of Windows. The installation CD even has music that plays as you install the drivers, which I thought was a nice touch. No extra software needed under Windows XP.
I am looking forward to saving money on toner, paper etc. as I no longer use my freestanding fax machine. Spam faxes stay in the "inbox" without getting printed. I can fax from documents in Word and other applications using the "print to fax" function under WinXP. No need to print them out and feed them through the old fax machine. I do have a Xerox scanner, and I can scan in any document I need to fax (seamlessly, I might add, using the "fax console" software which is included in WinXP), and I have been doing a lot of faxing. So far so good!
The price is right, and I am thinking this is an investment I should have made years ago. I wonder why people still buy fax machines?
Customer Rating: Summary: Good basic modem Comment: I needed a small modem to use with my Windows 7 notebook when I'm traveling and can't get a wi-fi connection. This one does the trick. The drivers loaded right up without any problem, I plugged the modem into a USB port, dialed my ISP and downloaded my e-mail. That simple. The only negative I can think of is that a smaller case would make it more convenient for travel.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy to use, great product for the money Comment: The product worked exactly as described. The installation was a breeze, and the modem worked like a charm the very first time. I have not tried it as a fax yet.
All in all I'm very satisfied with the product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent USB dial-up modem Comment: I purchased this TRENDnet USB dial-up modem as a back-up of my DSL line. I installed the driver for XP on two netbooks without problems. I did not install the additional software because I do not need it. I created a dial-up connection and I was connecting to the ISP's local dial-up back-up number in seconds. There are two minor things I would like to point out: (1) when the driver is working, a red light will appear on the unit (I wish that the light be green instead of red, which often suggests a problem); and (2) I wish that the unit be smaller (it is about 3 inches long). But, overall this modem is working fine so far, is easy to use, and is relatively inexpensive.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Windows 7 Experience Comment: If you are using Windows 7 Home (64 bit) this is a FAX only modem for now. Which is what I wanted it for. But the directions given for how to do this are sketchy. First go to the TRENDnet www site and download the Win 7 driver. Load the driver (run the .exe) and when it is finished plug in the modem (you will not be prompted) after you have connected it to a phone line. Then go to the Win icon and open Devices and Printers. You should see a modem (USB) icon and also a FAX icon. Click on the FAX icon and away you go.
There may be something similar in Win 7 that allows you to do a dial-up connection. But there is no guarantee.
TRENDnet says they are working to upgrade their interface. No delivery date promised.
And one other thing. Not every USB port on your computer will work with the modem. So you may have to try plugging it in to different USB ports. I do like it. But I may get a USB extension cable so that it does not hang off my computer.
