Summary: Excellent device! Saves hours of time. Great FAX replacement
Comment: This thing rocks! Huge time saver. Fast double sided scanning of paper. I ordered one for a lab in Boston where I was a postdoc. I love it, the boss' assistant loves it, everyone who tries it is amazed at how fast and efficiently it works. I used the SnapScan to scan 10 of my own lab books ( each book was 78 double sided sheets) to PDF before moving away to start my own lab. Although I did have to remove the pages and trim them down to 8 x 10 size to get the scanner to take them, it worked like a charm and now I have 4 plus years of my work available as PDFs. My only warning would be to be careful with thin magazine paper--a page of a New Yorker article got eaten because the paper was so thin (use the sheet protector that is supplied with the device for that). It is a bit pricey, but it pays for itself in saved time. I also have not yet tried the OCR feature, so I can't vouch for that yet. Still based on my experience thus far, I'd highly recommend this product: If you can afford one, you won't regret the purchase.

Summary: Best scanner for the Mac if you want to go paperless!
Comment: This scanner is fast. My goal is to go paperless at home and this is really, really slick. I got so excited, I started to do large stacks of old college papers, which weren't all straight and they would sometimes get jammed. But, if the papers are straight and flat, it does an outstanding job. OCR software is included so at you option, pdf's can be saved as searchable documents, or just electronically filed where you choose.

Summary: Super scanner
Comment: It does just what it is advertised to do. It scans documents of various sizes, double sided and fast. I find it to be a delight to use. Paper jams are very easy to resolve. I took it out of the box, loaded the software, plugged it in and it worked with no hassles. I have gone though hundreds of documents I had in my files and cleared lots of drawer space. To me, it is worth every penny.

Summary: No lies...
Comment: I know plenty of people have rated the Fujitsu S1500M as an excellent scanner. I am just here to add my praise. I have put some serious hours on this scanner, and it has never once skipped, stopped, or failed. I fed my entire paper life to this machine in a matter of 2-3 months earlier this year. I converted pretty much every piece of paper from my life for the past 10 years into PDFs and JPEGs. I'm only 28, so I'm sure some people have much more paper than I do, but I scanned every bill, receipt, picture, recipe, letter, user manual, magazine (lots), and all kinds of other things, and only the super-rare "two pages stuck together" error. The best part is that the machine recognizes and stops itself on these rare occasions.
It is practically impossible to imagine something working better than this machine. All settings, inlcuding the many for quality, B/W, color, front/back, multi-page, JPEG, OCR, and too many others to name, work perfectly. Not to mention that besides installing a very simple upgrade from Fujitsu for Snow Leopard and installing Acrobat Pro, it is pretty much plug 'n play.
And in the unbelievable circumstance that you're not satisfied, well at least you get Adobe's Acrobat Pro PDF software (which is worth at least a couple hundred and which I have actually found to be pretty useful) for free. It made putting my entire paper life in a little book-sized box on my desk much easier than I anticipated. Well done, Fujitsu.
